About Hometraditions

The Shop

The People

Hometraditions was showcased in an 1875 house sitting just on the edge of the downtown business district of Findlay Ohio. Restoration was done on this "farm" house that was built before many of the downtown buildings. The house has good "bones" although it needed all new electrical and plumbing. Some newer walls were removed to return it to it's original design, and crumbling plaster replaced.

The shop was filled (two floors) with furniture and home accessories, handpicked for the Traditional/Victorian and Shabby Chic home.

UPDATE: The shop is now closed due to a transfer, however items from Hometraditions are still available from the website

This is a vernacular style home with ornate gingerbread framing the front porch. The original home was built prior to the Victorian period. A room and the embellishments came later. Spring bulbs and perennials flourish in the brick lined flower beds along with a lavender lilac and rose of sharon.

We were lucky to have a great building to start out with. The oak and ash floors were scrubbed and polished. The walls were faux painted using paint, glaze and a terry cloth towel.
We offered antiques and accessories. Shown here is a mantle from Langes Antiques, Hamler Ohio. Florals courtesy of Langes as well.
Along with antiques, we offered wicker and wire furniture, lamps, pictures and accessories. I tend to lean toward the Traditional/Historical style with accessories.
This great old counter came from a general store in NW Ohio. It is pine with beadboard siding.
This room was set up as the dining room. The table is set with blue and white chintz and open-work china, and 18th century (reproduction) silverware.

The Christmas room was entered through french doors found in the basement during restoration. I couldn't resist putting them back up!
This room was created in June. If you're going to do Christmas in June, you'd better be serious about it. The themed trees are filled with ornaments from Old World Christmas, Christopher Radko, Midwest of Cannon Falls and Bavarian Heritage...so far.
This barrister book case is filled with Staffordshire chintz ware, and Ino Schaller Santa candy containers.
The walls in this room were faux painted too. The floors are ash in this room.
I love to showcase artist pieces. Shown here is the Santa-Sampler line by Diane Cheffy. She collects antique candy molds and puts them to good use casting her santas. Creating them from start to finish, she is meticulous with the detail and special touches. Each piece is named, numbered, dated and signed by Diane.
