Decorating Fireplace Mantles, Staircases and
Cupboards for the Holidays

Here are some of my own Christmas vignettes.  I'm no professional, but with
holiday decorating you don't have to be. Add your own personality and some
ingenuity and you'll get it right.
When you're done, take a snapshot of it.
Anything out of order will show up in the picture.

Fireplace mantle decorated for Christmas

This fireplace mantle display includes a Christmas scarf with red tassels, greenery with lights, and glass icicles from Old World Christmas. There are bottle brush trees, cardboard houses and a glass Christmas tree finial, set on a finial holder.

Now that I've taken a picture of this display, I see that it's imbalanced. The larger set of bottle brush trees should have been split up, some on the other side of the mantle or additional trees the same size put there. The miniature red feather tree might look better snuggled in with the bottle brush trees. Larger houses would work better in this display. I need two more Christmas stockings to balance underneath the mantle.

Photography allows you to see your display fresh, as for the first time. Its a good way to see the imperfections and the imbalances so that you can make adjustments more to your liking.

Holiday Display in Cupboard

By using your Christmas boxes to pack everyday things in, you can display  your Christmas treasures in their place. Top and bottom shelves have cardboard houses. Middle shelf, and mixed in with the houses is my collection of Bavarian Heritage figurines.

I love the Bavarian Heritage pieces and sold them on the website at one time.
But the company stopped making them. Now I wish I
had kept more of them for myself! Especially the limited numbered pieces....
They are so beautiful.

Della Robia Style Decoration on top of Antique Cupboard

There is an assortment of fruit and some vegetables in this display. These ornaments come from various companies - Old World Christmas, Seasons of Cannon Falls to name a few.
Its a great way to do a 'kitchen' theme.
This would also work well on a kitchen bulkhead with a plate rail.

Christmas Decorated Staircase

This decorated staircaase resides in a century old Queen Anne home. I used a good quality thick pine garland and added more various pine picks. There are white lights, mauve roses, dried globe amaranth and gold spray-painted teasel. There are salvaged gold curtain tie-backs with gold tassels combined with a burgundy bow at each peak. To finish it off, I added dried hydrangeas and glass walnut ornaments from Old World Christmas.

Holiday Decorated French Doors

These french doors are adorned with two garlands. One is all pinecones - wired from their ends so that they hand vertically. The second garland is a thick greenery garland filled with dried hydrangeas and holly. There are 14 antique glass icicles hanging down from it. Two large pinecones hang at each end. Wreaths attached to the door glass with suction cups finish out the display.
