Imperial Renaissance Egg

HISTORY OF THE DESIGN: This most extraordinarily bejeweled egg of the Imperial Egg Collection is also one of the few known "dated" eggs - inscribed on its back with the year 1894. It was presented to Empress Marie Feodorovna by her husband, Czar Alexander III on Easter Sunday of 1894. Since the Czar died later that same year, this was the last known commission of Alexander to the Faberges, though his son, Nicholas, continued the Imperial Egg Easter tradition. Created by the noted designer, Michael Perchin, of the famous Faberge workshop, the Renaissance Egg was molded of white agate and embossed with gold, green, red, blue, black and white enamel, then bedecked with diamonds and rubies.

Our lovely recreation in mouth blown cameo glass is faithfully reproduced to the design of the original. As the fifth piece in our Imperial Russian Collection, we have chosen to create this as our special commemorative Millennium piece and we have added the year "2000" to the front of the egg. It is our way of saying "Happy 2000th Birthday" to the Christ Child! And your new heirloom piece for generations to come! Limited Edition of 2000 pieces. First year of Issue 1999. Happy Collecting from the Wonderful World of Whitehurst Imports!
