This tree uses soft feathers. (NOTE: Due to a shortage of soft feathers, we can only offer this tree with stiff feathers at the moment.) The branches are seafoam green with white tips. The trunk tissue is dark brown trunk that has been whitewashed. Note the instructions to "whitewash" the trunk are below. You can also choose medium brown as shown in the 54" version.

Whitewashing technique for The Decorated Tree’s Alpine Feather Tree trunk (dark brown trunk as seen on the 56" Alpine tree). “Old Fashioned Milk Paint” in Oyster White was used. This paint comes in a powder form and is easy to mix with water to create a thinner consistency. Apply paint to the trunk with a small craft paint brush to get the desired effect on the dark brown tape used for the original trunk. Since this tree is supposed to be “snow-tipped,” the paint gives the trunk a frosty look. Milk paint is a non-toxic, environmentally-safe paint that comes in 20 colors that dry to a beautiful velvet finish.

The paint can be ordered from:

ABOUT THE ARTIST
  • Dennis Bauer is one of the country's premier feather tree makers.
  • His craftsmanship is the finest in today's market. These Christmas feather trees are accurately reproduced using antique feather trees as examples.
  • See more about Dennis Bauer's feather trees in the Summer 2001 issue of Celebrate 365, "Christmas 1950-Present" by Christmas historian Robert Brenner, 2005 Victorian Decorating Magazine Holiday edition, 2006 Christmas editions of Romantic Homes Magazine and Martha Stewart Living, and on the cover of the March 2007 issue of Martha Stewart Living. Martha again submitted her design for Dennis to make (what we call) the Snow tree shown in the 2010 December issue of Martha Stewart Living and again in her 2011 Holiday Handbook.
  • An avid Christmas enthusiast, and Golden Glow of Christmas Past member, Dennis and his wife, Joyce, have collected antique and vintage Christmas artifacts for 40 years. They are always on the lookout for old feather trees and other holiday items. Feel free to email us with items you have for sale.
