All of my trout and fly art pieces are inspired by Paul Fling and Donald Puterbaugh. I came across their book “Fly-Fisherman’s Primer”
and found the flies to be particularly interesting for their uniqueness and colors. Many have asked, “ So do you tie flies?” Well, no… I am drawn to these flies for their simplicity and color. Bright Feathers, wispy wings, furry textures all depicting insects of choice are incredible in number. I was certain that I would be classifying each selection I made.
I have also always been fond of combining art with literature, hence the
Washington Irving quote, “There is certainly something in fishing that tends to produce a gentleness of spirit, a pure serenity of mind.” This took a bit of research to find the perfect quote that didn’t sound like a bumper sticker. Having a love a nature myself, I can imagine the joy and the peace that a fisherman might experience again and again with each adventure, never tiring of the quiet moments and the appreciation of being lost in your own world. Washington Irving’s quote embodies the feeling I was hoping to capture. I hope you find his quote along with my artwork to be inspiring to you.
Kind Regards,
Bonnie Wolfe
