BONNIE WOLFE ART
Six Antique Trout Flies Framed Print by Bonnie Wolfe
Antique Fishing Lures Picture
All of my trout and fly art pieces are inspired by Paul Fling and Donald Puterbaugh. I came across their book “Fly-Fisherman’s Primer” and found the flies to be particularly interesting for their uniqueness and colors. Many have asked, “ So do you tie flies?” Well, no… I am drawn to these flies for their simplicity and color. Bright Feathers, wispy wings, furry textures all depicting insects of choice are incredible in number. I was certain that I would be classifying each selection I made.
I have also always been fond of combining art with literature, hence the Washington Irving quote, “There is certainly something in fishing that tends to produce a gentleness of spirit, a pure serenity of mind.” This took a bit of research to find the perfect quote that didn’t sound like a bumper sticker. Having a love a nature myself, I can imagine the joy and the peace that a fisherman might experience again and again with each adventure, never tiring of the quiet moments and the appreciation of being lost in your own world. Washington Irving’s quote embodies the feeling I was hoping to capture. I hope you find his quote along with my artwork to be inspiring to you.
These dry mounted prints have a unique weathered appeal, that adds warmth and charm that will grace any home. The sponging techniques enhanced with a mild splattering used by artist Bonnie Wolfe add to the natural aura that embodies her work.
Fly lures include: Ant, Spuddler, Lug Bug, Royal Wulff, Olive Quill, Humpy.
This print shows 6 of the lures in the Antique Fishing Lure series. The print is dry mounted. This is a process that involves the artwork being mounted to Masonite using a heavy piece of equipment and layers of glue. Artwork does not require glass.

About the Artist:
Bonnie Wolfe was born, raised and still resides in the Upper Sandusky area. Her initial art career began as a graphic artist for a local sporting company, allowing her to be creative with logo design as well as working with emulsions and screen developing in the lab well before everything was digitally composed. Raising a family inspired her to create her own business, allowing her the freedom to work at home. Through exclusive art shows throughout Ohio and Michigan she sold her artwork all across the country and abroad. Having no formal training, her art is more
instinctual and more about discovery; learning new techniques every day. Her current works are in watercolor, acrylic, ink and oils. She has been teaching adults and children for the past 22 years in her home studio. She teaches fundamentals and adds non-traditional methods she has developed over the years such as sponging, washing, glazing and splattering.
(Her) Students find her never-ending enthusiasm to be contagious. Bonnie continues to challenge herself by seeking special retreats with well-known artists such as Dr. Kyle Parks and Vance Shepherd. Through their influence, she has been introduced to “plein air” which has gently (or not so gently) pushed her to stretch even further.
Bonnie’s work has been on display at various galleries and trade shows throughout the country.
"I feel like I have only begun to touch the surface of what is possible. I feel truly Blessed."
